An engine belt allow the water pump and alternator to work. That’s why it is very important to inspect it regularly. Even if it’s recommanded to replace them every 60 000km or 2 years, it is better to inspect them.
A broken belt could lead to a an engine overheat or to a battery problem. A simple verification can avoid that, why not taking the time?
